The 3-day Space Debris and Sustainability Conference, organized by EPFL Space Center (eSpace), Laboratory for Space Research (LSR) of the HKU, International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), The Orion Astropreneur Space Academy (OASA) and Three Country Trusted Broker, was successfully held from 2/12 to 4/12 in the HKU. The conference offered access to the latest trends, insights, and opportunities for space sustainability as well as served as a premier international gathering for those who are passionate about the future of space and keeping our low earth orbit environment in particular usable for the future.
Rosana of Yau Lee Group, also a council member and a former board member of the OASA, attended this highly enjoyable and insightful conference. She was truly impressed by the tremendous efforts made by the organizing committee especially Prof Quentin Parker of the LSR invited esteemed space nations from 20 countries to become the speakers, including Prof Qiang Zhou from the HKU, Ms. Aarti Holla-Maini from The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Prof Jean-Paul Kneib from the ESC – Space Innovation and Dr. Anthony Neoh from the Asian Academy of International Law etc. Rosana also wants to thank Gregg, Perry and Clara to uphold the missions and strengthen the development of the OASA.
Rosana thinks that space debris is a significant concern for both current and future space activities. Despite the space debris and different types of waste differ in context and consequences, they share common issues related to their origins, environmental impacts, management challenges, and the need for public awareness and regulation. Therefore, all stakeholders need to prepare for the development of a new space economy in Hong Kong, laying an important foundation for sustainable development.
