【1st Open Data Conference cum Hackathon】
Ms. Rosana Wong, Executive Director of Yau Lee Group, was invited by Hong Kong Technology Advancement Group (HKtag) to serve as a final judge and panel speaker.
Open Data Conference cum Hackathon was organized by HKtag and co-organized by Cyberport and Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO). It aims at encouraging the industry to propose more effective solutions based on the datasets opened up in the Public Sector Information (PSI) Portal and Hong Kong GeoData Store, and integrated with AI, cloud technology and other innovative ideas.
 
The theme of this year’s competition is “Smart Environment”. The participating teams need to put forward their own innovative technological solutions in the context of Transportation, Environment and Energy or Climate and Weather to achieve the goal of creating a more comfortable and convenient living environment for Hong Kong. After careful selection by the final judges, Team222 stood out from nearly 30 participating teams and became the winner. EVeasy, developed by Team222, is an application designed specifically for electric vehicles which can provide real-time display and help find parking spaces of different charging facilities nearby. Team222 is committed to using open data to optimize the road network and travel patterns.
 
For the panel discussion, Mr. Michael Law, Assistant Commissioner / Technical Services of Transport Department, Dr. Lee Yiu Fai, Acting Senior Scientific Officer, Information Technology Management of Hong Kong Observatory, Ms. Ada Fung, Chairperson, Committee on BIM of Construction Industry Council and other industry representatives to share the application and development of open data.
 
Ms. Wong hopes that the sharing at the conference and the outstanding inventions at the Hackathon Final will facilitate more intelligent digitalization in Hong Kong. She believes that the Government has already taken the lead in promoting open data. She also welcomes the enthusiasm of young people for open data and smart city. Ms. Wong, who is also a Director of Cyberport, strongly supports Cyberport to organize any activities related to open data. If Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area are stepping up their cooperation in the field of open data, it will surely bring us an exponential growth.
