With the theme of “Leading Geospatial Innovation”, Esri China (HK) User Conference was hosted at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel today. Rosana, as a Founder and CEO of GVDC, has attended this Hong Kong’s largest GIS conference with Dr. Winnie Tang, Founder and Chairperson of Esri China (HK), Hon Elizabeth, LegoCo Member, Sr Ada Fung, Chairperson of HKABAEIMA, and Sr Winnie Shiu, VP of FIG.
The Conference started with a warm welcome by Paul, CEO of Esri China (HK), and followed by a sharing on the latest GIS technologies by Dr. Jack Dangermond. Rosana would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jack for being awarded a Doctor of Science honoris causa in recognition of this contributions to academia and humanity worldwide by the University of Hong Kong. A number of awards where also presented at the Conference, including the “Young Scholars Award” and “25th Anniversary STEAM Cup”. Three Primary 5 students from Leung Kui Kau Lutheran Primary School won the Multi-subjects ArcGIS StoryMaps Application Competition – Primary School Division and two girls from the team presented the award-winning project namely “The Companion of Shing Mun Riverside” to participants from all over the world. ArcGIS was applied in the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin, where is the hometown of the students, and the bridges along the River not only allowing for the passage of pedestrians but also connecting everyone’s heart to improve the connectivity between people and the community. Rosana was deeply touched as the students performed very well even at this young age and also look forward to a positive hope for the future of the industry as well as Hong Kong.
Rosana also joined the conference luncheon and had fruitful discussion with Dean Angelides, Corporate Director – International of Esri, and Tony, Business Development Director of Esri China (HK) on GIS global development. She also conducted in-depth exchanges with the representatives from Buildings Department, Lands Department, Highways Department, the Hong Kong Housing Society and other industry leaders on GIS and openBIM and expected more integration of these two technologies to strengthen the development of smart city in Hong Kong.
