The Long Span Footbridge connecting Hoi Ying Estate and Hoi Tat Estate will open tomorrow (August 13th). The footbridge assembly adopted novel technology and was completed in only one night! Within this extremely short assembly time, the impact on road traffic can be greatly reduced and the footbridge can also be used as soon as possible to save residents' walking time with increased convenience.
This 145-meter-long and 6-meter-wide footbridge was constructed by Yau Lee Construction Company Limited. It is currently the longest footbridge in Hong Kong’s public housing estates. By using the “Lowering Construction Method”, Yau Lee’s first-time execution in Hong Kong, and the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), "one-night assembly" can be achieved. The footbridge was firstly divided into two parts. These two parts were then installed separately and lowered by a tower crane to complete the assembly. In addition, the project requires a high degree of accuracy. A little inaccuracy can lead to failure in assembly. GVDC used BIM and 3D laser scanning technology to scan different components and simulate the construction process to bring extremely high accuracy to the project so the assembly can be completed smoothly.
