Housing for Millions
A luncheon sharing session was held by The Zonta Club of Kowloon today. Thanks Anna, Chairperson of Public Affairs Committee, for inviting Ms Winnie Ho, Secretary for Housing, to be the guest speaker. Secretary Ho shared the latest housing policy and the housing blueprint with the Zontians and friends from the construction industry.

There are approximately 127,500 households living in inadequate housing conditions in Hong Kong. Therefore, a Task Force on Tackling the Issue of Subdivided Units, led by Mr. Michael Wong, Deputy Financial Secretary, with Secretary Ho, was established by the CE in the 2023 Policy Address to conduct in-depth research and propose recommendations within 10 months based on set targets. In addition, the Housing Bureau is dedicated to addressing the housing needs of grassroots and providing 410,000 public housing units in the next 10 years as well as promoting MiC to enhance quality, speed and efficiency of the construction of transitional house and Light Public Housing, and ultimately provide affordable and suitable units for those in need in the shortest time frame.

As a Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Rosana of Yau Lee attended the luncheon sharing. During the Q&A session, Rosana asked Secretary Ho what she desires to see the most as a Secretary for Housing. Secretary Ho said “smile” because it is the greatest encouragement when she visits grassroots and witnesses their happiness due to improved living condition after moving into the transitional housing or public housing. All the attendees expressed their full support for Secretary Ho, especially Rosana since she shared the same feelings. It reminds her of the visits at Ying Wa Street Transitional Housing and the appreciation from the residents warmed her heart so much.

Lastly, Ada, President of The Zonta Club of Kowloon, concluded the luncheon by sharing a closing remarks. Ada is a former Deputy Director of Housing and has contributed a lot to the public housing development. She hopes that the luncheon sharing can bring the industry players together and foster collaboration to address Hong Kong’s housing challenges.
