Rosana of Yau Lee Group and its subsidiary GVDC team visited Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School (KSYSS) with Sunny of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors today (3/7) to share their insights and experiences on the career development in construction industry especially BIM and QS with around 250 Form 3-5 students.
In February, Rosana took the lead in organizing the “Luminary Project” with Pastor Heywood, the Chancellor, and Shirley, the Principal, carrying the meaning of bright and brilliant achievements which is also Rosana’s blessings to the young generation. The Luminary Project aims at giving students a deeper understanding of the construction industry, in particular smart construction and construction technology that have been promoted vigorously by the government in recent years to rebrand the image of labour intensive, low productivity and high risk so as to attract young people to join the industry.
The sharing session started with Sunny who introduced the role of QS and career path and followed by Rosana who mainly introduced new technologies such as BIM, MiC, blockchain and AI robotics. Rosana believes that the construction industry is now in its golden decade and full of opportunities, and it enables the students to quickly actualise their dream of “living in a bigger home”. Meanwhile, GVDC is currently collaborating with KSYSS to provide tailor-made BIM courses for junior secondary school students which enable them to have basic knowledge of BIM with practical experiences.
In view of the global trend of smart cities, KSYSS has integrated geospatial data technology into junior high school computer subjects a few years ago, and the GeoBIM laboratory converted from a classroom is also expected to open in November this year to further cultivate students' diversified development, explore their potential, and lay a solid foundation for them to become competent professionals.
