As a member of the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, Rosana from Yau Lee Group visited the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) today (24/10) to study its impressive barrier-free facilities, which underscore the commitment to inclusivity in arts and technology. The tour was led by Mrs. Winnie Kang, Commissioner for Rehabilitation, along with representatives from ArchSD, who provided insightful information on the design and functionality of the EKCC’s features.
The EKCC is a pioneering venue for the convergence of arts and technology (Arts Tech), positioning itself as a catalyst for the creative use of technology in stage productions to enhance audience experiences. The EKCC is also designed with accessibility in mind, featuring all barrier-free facilities and services that cater to the needs of people with disabilities, encouraging their participation in cultural and arts activities to promote Arts-for-All. For example, the retractable seating system provides a total solution with multifunctional purposes, along with an improved accessible toilet equipped with an auto lock.
Rosana is delighted to witness the continuous improvements in accessibility with each visit and appreciates the efforts of the ArchSD, the Labour and Welfare Bureau, and the design team for considering the needs of users. She hopes that Hong Kong will emerge as the most accessible smart city in the world.
