【Completion of Steel footbridge Heavy Lifting & Installation at Eastern Medical Centre within half an hour】
Installation of the steel footbridge linking two blocks of Eastern Medical Centre was completed tonight. The bridge is about 30 meters long with a structural weight of 60 tons and the height difference between two ends is 100mm. Tung Wong Road has been suspended from 9pm to 4am during installation.

In order to suit the very congested road condition between two blocks, heavy duty crane of 500-tonne capacity has been selected for the heavy lifting and installation. Yau Lee Building & Decoration (YLBD) also needs to take extra care of the outrigger position to protect the trees. Besides, the distance between two buildings is very close, hence the bearings are built inside the buildings. When the bridge is in place, it needs to be placed inside one of the buildings where only with 800mm tall and 100mm of space left when done. Therefore, full BIM approach was implemented from planning to installation to ensure an accurate construction sequence.

The installation was originally scheduled on 25/8 night. Since typhoon signal no. 8 was hoisted in the morning, the project team decided to implement a contingency plan after risk assessment. The bridge was successfully installed tonight. Thanks to our client for their trust and support as well as the cooperation of different governmental departments, and most importantly, effort of the project team to co-create this major milestone.
