The Hong Kong Institution of Surveyors (HKIS) Quantity Surveying Division (QSD) Annual Dinner 2023 was held last night. Yau Lee Group and its subsidiary GVDC were the sponsor of the event. Rosana, Executive Director, together with Eric, Commercial Director, Ben, Head of Commercial, Roy, GVDC Chief Commercial Officer, and a group of QS spent a wonderful and insightful night with government officials and industry elites.

 

QSD Chairman Sr Sunny Chiu and HKIS Chairman Sr Paul Wong delivered opening speeches for the dinner respectively. Sunny mentioned that the industry is facing a challenge of insufficient manpower. How to attract young people to join and making the industry more innovative are the top priorities. In addition, he also encouraged the existing QS to work hard and maintain professional standards since they act as a “goalkeeper” and are often responsible for checking the expenditure of the projects to ensure that the projects meet the budget and cost-effectiveness.

 

Mr. Victor Tai, Under Secretary for Housing, then delivered a speech as the guest-of-honour. He shared “同弘專業、協繪遠圖” meaning “professionalism and collaboration for the vision of QS”. He believes that BIM is very important to the industry and hopes that the practitioners will actively adopt BIM and construction digitalisation to further enhance productivity and quality.

 

Rosana was glad to meet so many friends and have a lot of fruitful discussions during the dinner. Yau Lee Group will strengthen the development of the QS Department to deliver the best quality of projects in terms of budget and cost-effectiveness. She also thanked the HKIS for their support in particular Sunny who led QSD members to visit our precast and MiC plant in the last week. Rosana admired his contribution to the industry. Finally, Rosana also thanked the group’s quantity surveyors and colleagues in the QS Department for their hard work and encouraged them to actively improve themselves and work towards the goals together with the Group.
