【First Writing Ceremony】
To celebrate the 26th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the montherland, the “First Writing Ceremony”, co-organized by the Hong Kong Qingdao Association (HKQA), Sha Tin District Office and Po Leung Kuk Dr. Jimmy Wong Chi-ho (Tim Sum Valley) Primary School, was held this morning. Rosana of Yau Lee Group attended this traditional ceremony as a HKQA Honorary President with Mr. Peter Liu, HKQA President, Miss Carol Or, District Officer (Sha Tin), Mr. Pun Kwok Shan, President of Civil Force, and other guests. In Chinese tradition, the “First Writing Ceremony” is an enlightenment ceremony held for children when they start learning and this means a lot to students and their parents as it marks the start of a new chapter in their life.

All of the guests, including Mr. Pat Kam Lung, Headmaster, wore Hanfu for the event to emphasize the importance of dressing properly. They read the Three Character Classic together with the Primary 3 students and showed respect to the statue of Confucius, teachers and parents with fist-and-palm salute. After that, Miss Carol Or, the Guest of Honour, beat a drum for three times to enable students to be enlightened as well as inspired to learn proactively. Beating a drum is an integral part of the ceremony, which symbolizes the future wisdom and achievements of the students. Finally, the guests guided all the students to write the character “人 (human beings)” with an ink brush. This Chinese character, with its simple strokes and profound meaning, symbolizes that all students should act honestly and faithfully to have a meaningful life.

Rosana was deeply touched by the traditional ceremony and the well-behaved students. She hopes that all students would uphold the traditional virtues and at the same time being diligent and self-motivated to learn how to contribute the society in the future.
