Transitional Housing Project at Ying Wa Street - Tenacity Residence
The transitional housing project at Ying Wa Street “Tenacity Residence” , built by Yau Lee Construction, achieved impressive results in Green Building Award 2023 and HKIA Annual Awards 2022/23.

The presentation ceremony of Green Building Award 2023 was held successfully last Friday (3/11). “Tenacity Residence” has been awarded “Merit Award” and “Special Citation on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals” under New Buildings Category – Completed Projects – Residential.

For the HKIA Annual Awards 2022/23, its presentation ceremony has just been finished this evening (8/11) during the HKIA Annual Ball. HKIA has organized the Annual Awards since 1965 to encourage industry professionals to keep innovating and improving design standards as well as to share outstanding architectural design with the public.

Benny, HKIA President, and Mr. Michael Wong, Deputy FS, delivered the opening speech to kick start the ceremony. First of all, The HKIA Gold Medal Award was presented to Dr. Donald Liao. Dr. Liu contributed to the Hong Kong construction industry for more than 60 years and he was the Chief Architect of Wah Fu Estate. Wah Fu Estate was Hong Kong’s first public housing estate in the form of a town equipping with independent shopping mall, library, market, parking space and school. It was an unprecedented initiative in 1960s. Although Dr. Liao is now 94 years old, he still continues his life pursuits which inspire everyone to believe, enjoy and be happy in what we do. All guests were touched by Dr. Liao and give the most “applause” to congratulate him.

“Tenacity Residence” has been awarded Special Award (Technology or Innovative Architecture), Merit Award of Hong Kong (Residential Building) and the Finalist of Special Award (Human and Social Inclusion) this evening, which was the first time for a transitional housing project to be accredited. In addition, Lam from Project Architect Thomas Chow Architects Ltd has also been award the HKIA Young Architect Award 2023. Therefore, Rosana of Yau Lee Group and the project team were extremely excited and grateful. This definitely provided great encouragement to the Group and the project team. Indeed, the Group has completed a number of transitional housing projects since 2020 to provide suitable place to live for more than 2000 people in need, while we continue to develop and adopt innovative construction technologies to bring the community from common good to social good.

Rosana would like to give a heartfelt thanks to HKGBC and HKIA for their recognition and also thanks the project team for their contribution. She was very happy to meet so many senior leaders and old friends tonight and has spent a warm “Beginning of Winter”.
