Symposium - WELL • BEING Design Dialogue
The WELL • BEING Design Dialogue, organized by the Housing Bureau and the Hong Kong Housing Authority, is being held today and tomorrow (12/9 - 13/9) in Che Kung Temple Sports Centre to bring together multidisciplinary professionals and practitioners for exchange of ideas on how to integrate well-being into Hong Kong’s public housing and improve the happiness of residents and the entire community by rethinking the design of the estate environment, facilities, and public spaces, as well as adopting a human-centric neighbourhood approach.

Ms. Winnie Ho, Secretary for Housing, delivered an opening speech at the symposium and mentioned that the Housing Bureau has arranged Well • being Express in different public housing estates to understand the perspectives of public housing residents on well-being and integrate them in the public housing planning. The Bureau has also conceptualised “well-being” into 8 distinct categories and published 8 series of design guidelines, including Health & Vitality, Green Living & Sustainability, Age-friendliness, Intergenerational & Inclusive Living, Family & Community Connection, Urban Integration, Upward Mobility, and Perception & Image. Secretary Ho hopes that the public housing residents can enjoy a warm and thoughtful design the "home-oriented" strategy. There are also two sessions, namely “Well-being • Dimension” and “Well-being • Design”, with different speakers including Tim (Chief Architect of the Housing Department), Prof Xiu-lian Ma (Department of Social Governance and Ecological Advancement, National Academy of Governance), Prof Kelvin Wang (School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong) and Winnie Ying (Head of Charities, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust), etc sharing their insights.

Rosana of Yau Lee Group was deeply touched by the symposium, which reminded her of the Group’s latest development "L•Living 23 " where smart city concepts were adopted. It is a human-centric development and built with the philosophy of “Less House, More Home” to provide a healthier and intergenerational living to the community.
