Choi Shek Lane Light Public Housing Intake Day
Choi Shek Lane Light Public Housing, converted from an old school building by Yau Lee Construction, held its intake ceremony on March 2. Conrad, Rosana and Patrick of Yau Lee Group, along with Secretary Winnie Ho, Under Secretary Victor, and the project team, welcomed the tenants on this remarkable occasion.

Formerly the campus of St. Joseph’s Anglo-Chinese School, Choi Shek Lane Light Public Housing provides 148 units with monthly rent from HKD1,230 to HKD3,310. During the renovation, many original architectural features were retained – for instance, the distinctive exterior signage lettering, the Cross, the mosaic columns and the stained glass at the entrance, the iron main gate and corridor tiles. In addition, the school auditorium and playground were also repurposed as community facilities and common space. This approach not only minimized construction waste but also preserved residents’ sense of connection and affection to this 50-year-old campus.

Rosana believes that this project is highly meaningful and truly a “project that changes lives”- giving a second life to an abandoned campus which once held countless memories to many people and at the same time, monetizing the vacant space and providing warm and affordable housing to those in need. Yau Lee Group is committed to fulfilling social responsibility, promoting social good and most importantly, giving back to the community.
