Yau Lee Group has recently (10/6) arranged technical visits to the Light Public Housing (LPH) in Choi Shek Lane, Kowloon Bay and Hang Kwong Street, Ma On Shan for the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Global Built Environment Study Tour 2026. To facilitate knowledge exchange between RMIT and the local construction industry, we have invited students from the Hong Kong Institution of Construction (HKIC) to join the visits. Meanwhile, it was our honour to have Ms. Winnie Ho JP, the Secretary for Housing, join us at Hang Kwong Street to support the visit.
LPH is a large-scale social project with very significant social function and value led by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, spreadheading by the Housing Bureau and make use of government and private land, the long-term development plan of which will not be implemented in the near future, and adopt standardised simple design and the Modular Integrated Construction approach to build LPH units expeditiously in order to fill the short-term gap of public housing supply and improve the living conditions and quality of life of people living in inadequate housing at the soonest.
Secretary Ho shared the overall strategy of the LPH and the challenges encountered in past LPH projects. All students were keen to learn about the LPH and were impressed by how the Hong Kong Government bridged the short-term gap in housing supply, especially by leveraging MiC, utilizing the land resources and vacant premises to provide affordable temporary homes for low-income families, and greatly improve living environment, thereby delivering broader social benefits.
Rosana from Yau Lee Group also delivered a presentation on the two abovementioned LPH projects. The Choi Shek Lane project, which commenced intake in March this year, was transformed from a vacant school and the Hang Kwong Street project which is still under construction has successfully achieved a 3-day construction cycle for MiC, completing a floor by MiC in 3 days.
As a pioneer in MiC projects, Yau Lee Group is committed not only to accelerating the construction process with new, high-quality productive forces, but also to supporting the promotion of Hong Kong’s construction technologies. Through ongoing sharing and exchange of knowledge with our global partners, we aim to inspire the industry to adopt efficient construction process and high-quality housing.
