”Construction of Hong Kong” Lecture Series
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Institute, together with the Joint Publishing Cultural Fund and PolyU’s Dept of Building and Real Estate, presents the “Construction of Hong Kong” lecture series. Dr Rosana Wong of Yau Lee Group attended the second lecture this afternoon (20/6). This lecture, titled “Changes in the Paradigm of Post-war Urban Planning” was delivered by Prof KK Ling, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Society and a former Director of the Planning Department.

Using a time-line approach, KK reviewed Hong Kong’s strategic planning and overall urban layout, covering key developments from the post-war period, such as the 1948 Hong Kong Preliminary Planning Report, the 1970 Colony Outline Plan, the 1979 Hong Kong Outline Plan, the 1984 Territorial Development Strategy, the 1996 Territorial Development Strategy Review, the Hong Kong 2030: Planning Vision and Strategy in 2007, the Energizing Kowloon East in 2012 and the Northern Metropolis in 2022, etc. The lecture also discussed how these initiatives have driven urban renewal, extending to today’s efforts to create a more people-oriented, liveable urban environment, as well as the directions and goals promoted through collaboration with the Greater Bay Area.

Rosana would like to express the sincere appreciation to KK for his generous and in-depth sharing. His content is rich and specific, like a “living encyclopedia,” helping us gain a more comprehensive understanding of how Hong Kong has responded to society’s needs through planning and construction across different eras. As one of the stakeholders in the construction industry, the Group is also honoured to have been involved in Hong Kong Housing construction work for the past 68 years. Looking ahead, Rosana and Yau Lee Group will continue to support the Government’s urban development policies, including the The First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026-2030) which is currently under public consultation, by working together with the industry to build Hong Kong’s future and achieve high-quality development.
