United Court, one of the large-scale transitional housing projects in Hong Kong, will provide a total of 1800 units and thousands of families will be benefited after completion. In response to the development of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Government announced on March 1 that United Court would be converted into a Community Isolation Facility (CIF). In other words, the project originally planned to be completed in Q2 2022 must be greatly accelerated.

 

REC Engineering Company Limited, a subsidiary of Yau Lee Group, is a Building Services subcontractor of this project. Ms. Rosana Wong, Executive Director, received an invitation message from the Transport and Housing Bureau (THB) and understood that CIF is an immediate priority. She therefore led and supported REC to change its strategy and work closely with the main contractor, the operator and other sub-contractors. An average of 385 workers assigned by REC worked around the clock to make the impossible mission possible. The Acceptance Inspection of Fire Service Installations was successfully passed yesterday (March 21) and the United Court are expected to open within this week.

 

The Government has been promoting the development of transitional housing since 2017. With the facilitation and coordination of the Task Force on Transitional Housing under the Transport and Housing Bureau (THB), as at March 4 this year, a total of 1671 units were completed to benefit 4454 citizens and more than 15000 units are being built/started.

 

Yau Lee Group understands the importance of transitional housing as well as flexibility and has started transitional housing construction since at end-2020. So far, 345 units were completed, accounting for more than 60% of the new-built transitional housing units in Hong Kong. We are also the first main contractor to develop and adopt the patented technology of demountable concrete MiC. Yau Lee Group will continue to enhance our productivity by adopting a wide range of innovative technologies to support the Government, the THB and the operators to solve the housing problem for grassroots families as soon as possible.
