In light of the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong and that the number of new cases recorded daily stays high, the HKSAR Government would spare no effort in increasing community isolation and treatment facilities by all means.
Thanks to the Architectural Services Department, the Housing Department and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department for their trust in Yau Lee Group. Our subsidiaries Yau Lee Construction Co Ltd (YLC) and REC Engineering Co Ltd (REC) have been commissioned to convert Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and LCSD Sports Centre (including Choi Wing Road Sports Centre, etc.) into community isolation facilities within a very short period of time. For the conversion of Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, YLC and REC have mobilized around 200 workers to start renovation works on Monday (21 Feb) and 1,200 isolation facilities are expected to be completed within 6 days, meanwhile, for the conversion of Choi Wing Road Sports Centre, REC only required one afternoon to create a “positive pressure gradient” in the fitness room and multi-purpose room on the second floor for medical staff and supporting staff while “negative pressure gradient” in the main sports field to accommodate patients so as to reduce the risk of infection among staff and nearby buildings. Several patients were sent to the sports centre in the evening so they did not stay outside in the cold. YLC and REC are working hard to provide the community with a place for citizens in need to get proper treatment as soon as possible.
Looking back on the SARS outbreak in 2003, YLC also participated in the conversion of the existing wards of Tuen Mun Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital into SARS wards to meet the huge demand in the community. Since the two hospitals were still in operation during the conversion, it was extremely challenging in terms of time, technical requirements and cost control. The team worked together to complete the conversion very quickly, which not only highly appreciated by the client but also gained valuable experience for the Group to complete the above conversion works under the current pandemic situation.
Yau Lee Group understands that teamwork and seamless coordination are the key elements for project success. This is not only applied to construction projects, but should also support and understand each other and work together to defeat the pandemic. Yau Lee Group hereby expresses the heartfelt thanks to those who works tirelessly on anti-pandemic implements, including our project team members, for their care, patience, selflessness, dedication and sacrifice.
